Easter in Paraty
Paraty is a traditionally Catholic city, the celebration of Easter traditions kept dating from the XVII century. You can watch the Biblical scenes made with sawdust and grains, the liturgies and the traditional music.
Procissão do Fogaréu is one of the highlights of Easter celebration in Paraty. It is a procession were the local people walk through the streets with torches, street lights off, and sound jingle bells creating a unique atmosphere.
Since Easter is a movable holiday (it starts the Thursday following the Holy Trinity Sunday, which, in turn, is the Sunday following Pentecost Sunday), the dates for Easter change every year.
